Research Interests: history and theories of international relations, China’s foreign policy, ASEAN studies, human rights, international law, nationalism, American foreign policy, international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, translational migration, Southeast Asian studies

Bio: Professor Zhang has published two monographs in Chinese, The Cold War and the Civil War: The Soviet-US Power Rivalry and the Origin of the Chinese Civil War, 1944–1946 [《冷战与内战:美苏争霸与国共冲突的起源》] (2004) and From Sterling to Dollar: A Study on the International Economic Power Transition, 1933–1945 [《从英镑到美元:国际经济体系的转换》] (2006). He also has published extensively in both English and Chinese language journals. Professor Zhang has received numerous awards and accolades for his teaching in both English and Chinese, including prestigious membership in the National Guidance Committee on Teaching Political Science in Colleges and Universities, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (2013-2017). He has served as distinguished/guest professor at Rhodes University (South Africa) and United International College (Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University), and received his PhD from Nanjing University and the University of Hong Kong.
